HIC (Healing Inner Conflict) is a simple and relatively quick method for following disturbing behaviours either external or internal. Its processes are a simple template that can guide toward identifying the mechanisms behind the disturbing behaviours. Once we understand the context behind the disturbing behaviour then we can inevitably develop a sensitive, understanding and therefore compassionate relationship with the parts of ourselves involved. These parts had to internalise insensitive behaviours in order to intimidate other parts’ unique expression into paralysed compliance in order to minimise the potential for continued incoming insensitivity.
It has become clear is that there is a simplicity behind these disturbances. We require a healthy relationship to sadness in order to not spend much of our time and relationships trying to avoid it. Nobody has died from sadness, however many have perished from the inability to deal with it, due to the sense of overwhelm that usually accompanies the sadness as it looms on the horizon of our inner landscape. The reason for this, for many of us, is the link that is made in early childhood between sadness, the emotional feeling and the overwhelming survival-based feeling that if we don’t comply we might get abandoned, therefore not fed and die.
